OUGD501 - Writing a Brief

Writing a Brief

The influence of gender equality within mainstream journalism.
Fluidity – Zine

Brief (outline the general aims of the project)

The aim of the project is to highlight and question why gender is portrayed in very separate ways in mainstream journalism and in no way, consider gender neutral, transgender etc. I want to investigate the ways in which men and women are represented in extremely stereotypical forms and to create a publication that breaks this trend changing the ways in which gender is perceived in the media. The publication will remove any kind of gender bias and demonstrate that within fashion gender doesn’t exist. Fashion should allow people to express themselves and be whoever they want to be without the separation of clothes due to gender. The zine will show men and women modelling the same clothes to project the message that it should be socially acceptable and socially advertised that everyone can wear whatever they please.

What is the zine all about, who has it been created for and why has it been created?
Could take a very loud approach almost highlighting and breaking the gender-neutral rules or a contemporary approach that removes the usual gender stances that are seen in mainstream magazines like vogue.

Background / considerations

What is the purpose of the zine, who is it aimed at, why has it been created?
