Research:
For the research in to the chosen subject for the brief it was important to look into more than one perspective. This involved looking into journalism that strongly enforced the gender stereotypes but also to find existing information and stories about those who have already started to break the gender stereotypical rules. For the gathering of theoretical research and studies, books such as ‘Media, Gender and Identity by David Gauntlett’ seen in Figure 1 were full of experiments and research conducted to back up some of the theories. When finding more visual research, it was important to look at more current affairs in order to understand the severity of the problem within the present day. Figure 2 is an image of the different ways that the front covers of GQ magazine sexually objectify both men and women but in very different ways. Thus supporting the extreme gender stereotypes within mainstream journalism. Figure 3 is a photograph from an article about young boys wearing skirts to school as they had been told they were not allowed to wear shorts. Figure 4 is a photograph from H&M recent gender neutral denim line which was a bold move by a high street brand in the direction of a more gender fluid future.
